It has been a year past since last post. And 2013 will be the end soon…so this post could be the only one in this year. I know I am not the guy like posting a lot, but one post a year… I will try to be hard from the next year…haha!

I’ve got 2 comments about ゴリカレ currently and they were all sort of spam. Of course, have already removed. But I have no idea why they have left comments only that post? Isn’t it funny? I know my brog hasn’t many posts yet (or maybe until the end, 哈哈). But I can not understand why only single post has got many comments though they are spam.

画皮II
I went to movie yesterday. It has been really long time and can’t remember when the last time. And this is the first time sort of 3D movie and those funny glasses on. I am not sure that we really need this 3D type technology? I have sometimes tried those off during the movie and of course I knew what the difference, but I don’t think those are really needed. Anyway, it was good experience to me and better to stop complaining any more.
The story of it was just ordinary love story with two human though title is sort of demon ‘妖怪’. Actually, English sub title is ‘Painted Skin’. I don’t have any information before watching, I have just told scaring movie, so have enjoyed. But she said ‘无聊’.

You’ve got backup. Now it’s time to update OS, isn’t it? First thing you should do is to chose which OS you want to use. I used to use FreeBSD. So this is one of choice, but not this time. CentOS6 is my choice because former one is CentOS5. Looks very natural, it make sense, right? Other option, Scientific Linux would be. It also one of linux distribution and they may be very similar. Some sites have tried to compare them, I am not sure how their difference is. Okay, they should have some difference though their kernel is same. Libraries and initial setting should be different…, who cares? Most of the people would make their own customize, so do I.
Never mind, we’d better move on.
Once you decided your new OS, the next thing is media choice. I am using rental vps server and I don’t need to care about it. Just single click is enough after praying the God.
After while, all setting are initialized and OS is updated. Then,
- type the new root password twice
- make new user and set up it
- update by ‘yum update’
- set up sshd
- close ports with iptable
- install programs and set them up with backup
That’s it. Item 1-3 are already in my blog.

How do you update your server OS? Minor update is not a problem because you only need to do is ‘yum update’. Kernel is included in this update so you don’t worry about it, right? But how about major update such as CentOS5 to CentOS6? Maybe most of OS suggest clean install. This is because major update. Of course, it is true. Imagine that some former mechanizm is not erased and still working. And whathappen if new one is completely different and working at the same time?
Engineer could prepare about it, but they don’t want to do that. If they have such time to do it, they want to spend it for another developments. This is happen only once and there is another way, it is clean install. so did I.
Anyway, before you update your OS, you have to think about what you should make backups. For me, like follows.
- environment /etc, other setting
- personal data /home
- web site /var/www
- mysql data, this is part of web site
First 3 contents does not have any issue, you just use ‘tar zcvf ***.tar.gz /***/***’.
So how do you create your database backup? It depends on your situation. When you need to create it with database running, it is not easy. MySQL has a command ‘mysqldump’, not only MySQL but other database system has also their own command to make backup. Actually it is not so hard. But if you could stop it, it is really easy. You stop MySQL then make a backup ‘tar zcvf ***.tar.gz /var/lib/mysql’. This is it. Done.
And don’t forget ‘other setting’. Some programs are used to install /usr/local folder such as squid. You had better keep these setting.

All of sudden I realize that my blog is very poor about pictures. In fact, I did not start only this server to make my blog site, but the other purpose. So I don’t need to care about it though it is not colorful or is not ‘catchy’. But it feel so lonely….
So today, I will show you my favorite speakers. Look at picture below.
This is just a speaker. No, it’s not. As you can see, shade on right is look wired isn’t it? Side panels of box is made of acrylic resin, so you can see the sound way by side view. You can also see opening in bottom of box, this speaker is called ‘back-loaded horn’ or ‘BLH’. The speaker is very small, compact, size is just same as A4. But sound is very powerful. Unit is 8cm with full range(monacor:SPH-30X), but back-loaded horn is designed low frequency to make louder, so you never believe in your ears when you hear it’s sounds. You never believe this small speaker could play so various frequency, especially low. Of course every things have own pros and cons, for this BLH, low frequency sound wave from back side of unit will delay a little bit. None of us could find this delay, sound way length is just 1m and delay is only 0.003 seconds.

Perhaps you don’t need it, because memories and disks are not so expensive and your servers have enough of them.
In my case, one of mine is little bit poor about memories. So I have made some turning to programs such as httpd cut modules which is not needed currently. Even though they are already minimized, free memories are slowly decreased little by little. This is caused by squid and memories should be needed to be free periodically.
# echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
# echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
# echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
# echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

The last post was from my smart phone which is android. It’s sweet, really handy for browsing… but one thing mentioned.
Input method is suck!
I really touch sense but this mobile input method drive me crazy. I used to use keyboard style and I could not count how many miss types were occurred. Hey, don’t say my fingers are so fat. I believe many of you have same problem.
So I installed gesture style input method. ‘TouchPal Keyboard’ is the name. You can find it below link.
I have not tried it much but it looks good for creating document like blog. I also have installed ‘Hacker’s Keyboard’, this is handy not only for ‘ConnectBot’ but others like using command line.

Last end of year, I bought a new mobile phone. And this is my very first smart phone. I did not have any idea smart phone, I have just wanted to try it anyway. There are 2 sort of major OS for smart phones and mine is ‘Android’. Because I have no idea to buy it, I also do know how to use it or weekday it would be used for. So now I am trying it.
